Yallamundi is located 28 Kilometres South-East of Millmerran in south-east Queensland. The property is in the Parish of Tummaville, Shire of Millmerran. The total area of the property is 2,724 hectares, which includes the Yallamundi Lagoon, which runs adjacent to the plantation.
Yallamundi, in its native state was representative of the bimble box/cypress community. The property is mostly cleared and has traditionally been used for sheep and cattle grazing on native and improved pastures.
The soils at Yallamundi are a typical Duplex soil consisting of sandy loam over heavy clay. The areas being developed are the better-drained areas where soil depth is greater than 500mm.
The topsoil has a typically low nutrient status, permitting appropriate amendment with specific nutrients for olive growth. Specific attention is being paid to increasing organic carbon, sulphur, potassium, zinc and boron.
Yallamundi Lagoon
One of the unique features of the land at Yallamundi is its access to the water storage facility provided by the Yallamundi Lagoon, which runs adjacent to the plantation. The Yallamundi Lagoon has a capacity of approximately 7,000 megalitres and the two storage dams have a capacity of approximately 1,900 megalitres combined. The Lagoon itself covers an area of approximately 400 acres and has a maximum depth of 6 metres.
The Lagoon benefits from an easement for waterworks over the surrounding land. Extensive water harvesting infrastructure ensures that natural runoff is captured and fed into the lagoon. A water harvesting licence is held which enables water to be taken from Spiers Creek, which runs through the property.
Investor Cabins
As an added benefit for our investors Australian Olives has established three comfortable self-contained cabins on the Yallamundi plantation. The intention of these cabins is to allow investors to visit the plantation and see first hand the processes involved in maintaining an olive plantation. All you need to bring with you is your food, the rest is provided.
The cabins are situated on the banks of the Yallamundi Lagoon, which provides a fantastic aspect to relax and enjoy a wonderful country sunset. There is no cost for investors to stay in the cabins, but it is essential that you book. To book your night away at Yallamundi please download the cabin stay booking form from the Investor Login section and return to Australian Olives.
